• I'm a newcomer, is that a disadvantage?

  No, of course that's not a disadvantage. We are always happy to work with new talented artists, authors, labels and publishers.

  If we see an opportunity to place your products on the market, you will receive your personal contract proposal from us.

   

• Do you include all books in the distribution program?

  In principle, we accept books of all genres and languages. (Please note that our distribution area covers Germany, Austria and Switzerland.)It is important that the book makes a professional impression and has a professionally designed cover. However, we reserve the right not to include books in our program if we do not see a successful collaboration for both sides. You don't have a cover yet, or are unsure whether it is suitable for the book trade? No problem! Our graphic design team will be happy to advise you and work with you to create a unique book cover according to your wishes.

• How does book distribution work?

  After you have filled out the request form, one of our sales representatives will contact you with all further information. We usually ask for the cover and an inside view of your title so that we can get a clearer picture. If we can imagine working with you, we will agree a margin and then send you a contract proposal and, if you wish, a print offer. The books are then stored on consignment with us, listed in all the necessary places in the trade and sent to bookshops and online stores.

• What is meant by an interior view?

  If we request an inside view of your title, we ask that you send us a few excerpts from your book so that we can get a more accurate picture. You can send us your full manuscript here or just a sample. This data will not be passed on, but will of course be treated confidentially. Important: Please send the files as PDFs, as we cannot receive Word documents by email.

• Will I get a personal contact person?

  Yes, you will be assigned a personal contact person. Our professional team with many years of experience in the music and book business will be happy to answer any questions you may have about your publication at any time.

• What rights does Nova MD have to my titles?

  We only ever have the non-exclusive distribution rights to your works, all other rights such as copyrights remain with you! This means that you do not have to offer us all your titles for distribution, regardless of whether they have already been written or are yet to be published. It is important that you do not give your titles that you distribute to us to any other distributor in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. Of course, you are also welcome to sell your book or CD on your own website, at concerts, trade fairs or readings.

• Where will my books, audio books and audio plays be published?

  We list your books, audiobooks and audio dramas with all the well-known online bookstores (Zeitfracht, Libri and Umbreit) and online stores such as Amazon, Thalia, Weltbild and many more. This means that your book, audiobook or audio play is available in all popular online book stores and in all bookstores in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

• Will my books be listed in the Vlb?

  Yes, we will list all your titles in the Verzeichnis lieferbarer Bücher (VLB). This involves a one-off fee of €25.00/net for a new listing and an annual fee of €5.10/net per title.

• How much do I earn per sale?

  You can determine the sales price per CD or book sold yourself. We calculate a fixed margin based on the gross sales price, which is paid out to you. Our calculation does not provide for a fixed percentage of the sales price. We use fixed price codes to calculate your payout per sale. The discounts that we have to grant to retailers are already deducted from your margin. These discounts amount to up to 60 %.

• When do I receive my invoices and can I see how much has been sold?

  You will receive a monthly statement from us with all goods movements. This will always be posted to your account with our partner Feiyr by the 10th of the following month. You can then simply trigger these so-called label statements with 2 clicks and invoice us for your revenue. You can also track your sales figures in real time in your Feiyr account.

• Which book format is the best?

  There is no general answer to this question, as it always depends on the genre. A hardcover in a larger format is usually suitable for baking books or picture books. For classic novels, a paperback is often the best choice. A common format here is 130 x 190 mm, for example. Standard sizes are usually cheaper to print than special formats. However, you can of course determine the format yourself.

• Can I have my book printed by Nova MD?

  We work together with a partner print shop and can send you a non-binding offer for the printing of your book. We do not print ourselves. It is always a good idea to compare the prices of several printing companies. However, it is of course not compulsory to have your book printed by Nova MD. Where you ultimately have your book printed is up to you. So that we can obtain a quote from our partner print shop, please fill in the form provided and send it to us. If you have not yet received this form or need it again, please ask your contact person.

• How many books should I print at the beginning?

  We recommend that you start with a small print run of approx. 50 - 150 books. You are also welcome to keep some of the books yourself to sell at readings, trade fairs, etc. If we run out of stock, you will automatically receive a message. This way you can react and have your book reprinted. To ensure long-term availability, you should check your stock regularly so that you can submit a delivery request in good time if necessary. You can view the stock of your titles in your account with our partner Feiyr and respond promptly.

• How many books can I deliver?

  We will agree an individual quantity with you for the first delivery. This is usually between 50 and 150 copies. For future deliveries, you can then submit an order request via your account with our partner Feiyr, whereby you will then receive an order from us for the quantity that you are allowed to deliver. You can also enter your desired delivery quantity there, e.g. if your goods are already pre-packed in 5-packs etc.

• Do I have to pay an activation fee for my FEIYR account?

  If a distribution contract has been concluded for your physical product, you will receive a voucher code for the activation fee of your FEIYR account after receipt of the contract. This way you will not incur any costs.

• What costs will I incur?

  Since a small print run is printed for the distribution of your titles, you must bear the printing costs in advance (it does not matter whether you have your books printed by our partner print shop or by another print shop). Listing in the VLB involves a one-off fee of €25.00/net for a new listing and an annual fee of €5.10/net per title. To ensure that your goods, which are stored with us on consignment, are insured against, for example, a burst water pipe, an insurance fee of €4.06/net is charged monthly. The insurance fee is independent of the quantity of titles stored with us.

• What should I do if I already have printed books but no contracts with the bar ranges?

  You are welcome to provide us with previously published titles for distribution. If you don't have any contracts with the bar ranges, please stick a new barcode over the barcode printed on the back of your book. It is important that the sticker is applied directly to the book, even if your books are shrink-wrapped. If you stick the barcode on the foil, you may have problems with returns or the title may not even be accepted by retailers. Please also make sure that the new barcode completely covers the old one so that there are no problems when scanning the barcode.

• Can I use my own ISBN or the ISBN of an agency?

  You can use your own ISBN if you have your own contracts with the bar ranges [Zeitfracht (formerly KNV), Libri and Umbreit]. Otherwise your book will unfortunately not be listed there and therefore usually not ordered. If you do not have your own contracts, you will receive a free ISBN with the corresponding barcode from us.

• How often does Nova MD ship orders?

  All incoming orders are dispatched daily (Monday to Friday).

• When can I book a cover or book typesetting with your graphics department?

  As soon as the distribution contract has been concluded, you are welcome to book services for cover design, book typesetting, advertising material etc. with our graphics department. As we have an "author-friendly" pricing policy, we offer our graphic design services exclusively to our customers.

• Can I also publish my book as an eBook via Nova MD?

  Yes, with our digital distribution partner Feiyr, you can also sell your book as an eBook in over 160 online stores worldwide within a short space of time. Of course, the big players such as Amazon, Thalia, Hugendubel, Weltbild, etc. are also included.

• Do I have to advertise my book, audio book or audio play? Do you support me in this?

  Yes, absolutely! A large number of new publications come onto the market every day. It is therefore essential that you promote yourself as an author and your work. Since we want to make it as easy as possible for you, we offer you a few promotion tools that you can use to advertise easily and in just a few steps. However, you do not have to book any promotion tools through us, but you are welcome to promote your work in other ways. You can book all our tools in your account with our partner FEIYR, where you will also find descriptions and prices for each tool.

• Can you also offer a publishing contract?

  Yes, we have our own Kampenwand publishing house and can therefore also offer authors who do not wish to self-publish a publishing contract. The best thing to do is to fill out the online form and send us your manuscript. We will then check your request and get back to you.

• What is the difference between Nova MD and PoD providers?

  At Nova MD, you print a short run of between 50 and 150 copies in advance and we store an individually agreed quantity of your goods with us. With PoD providers, your book will only be printed once an order has been placed, which can lead to longer delivery times.

• Do you also offer print on demand (PoD)?

  We do not offer a POD service directly through Nova MD, but we can offer you this through our partner FEIYR.
